Alert sound maker

Make the sound that plays when a follow, a sub or a tip comes in. It is synthesised in your browser — you are not downloading someone else’s file, you are making your own, so there is no copyright to worry about.

Where the sound goes

  1. <b>In our alert overlay:</b> the overlay already makes its own tone; to use your own file, add it in OBS as a separate <b>Media Source</b> and trigger it with the alert.
  2. <b>In the sound buttons overlay:</b> you can load your own files and fire them from a button.
  3. <b>Straight in OBS:</b> Sources → Media Source → pick the WAV. With "Restart playback when source becomes active" ticked it plays each time the scene opens.

Common questions

Can I use these sounds on stream without copyright trouble?
Yes you can, because we are not handing out someone’s recording. The sound is synthesised in your browser at that moment and the file you download is yours to use however you like.
Why WAV and not MP3?
The browser can write a WAV on its own; MP3 would mean downloading an encoder as well. Short alert sounds are only a few hundred kilobytes anyway, and OBS plays WAV without complaint.
How do I make it softer?
Pick the soft sine wave, set the note length to 150–200 ms and bring the pitch down to around 500 Hz. A square wave at a high pitch is harsh; if you want that retro sound, keep it short.
Does the file go to your server?
No. Both the synthesis and the download happen inside your browser; no audio reaches us.
