Bitrate calculator

Enter your upload speed and we will tell you how to set up the stream. The numbers come from Twitch’s and Kick’s own broadcasting guides (Sep 23, 2026), with the sources linked below.

If you do not know your upload speed, measure it on a speed test site — we do not measure it from your browser, we calculate from what you type.

    Twitch’s own table

    • 1080p601920×1080 · 60 fps · 6.000 kbps · keyframe 2 s · CBR
    • 1080p301920×1080 · 30 fps · 4.500 kbps · keyframe 2 s · CBR
    • 720p601280×720 · 60 fps · 4.500 kbps · keyframe 2 s · CBR
    • 720p301280×720 · 30 fps · 3.000 kbps · keyframe 2 s · CBR

Twitch does not publish anything below 720p in this table, so neither do we. Audio: AAC-LC · recommended 96 kbps · max 160 kbps.

    What Kick publishes

1.000–8.000 kbps · max 1920x1080 · 60 fps · keyframe 2 s · CBR · audio stereo, max 48 kHz. Kick does not publish a bitrate per resolution — only the 1,000–8,000 kbps range and the 1080p / 60 fps ceiling. So we do not invent a ladder for Kick: the suggestion comes from your upload speed inside that range.

    Common questions

    What is bitrate?
How much data you send to the platform each second. Raising it improves the picture up to a point; if your connection cannot carry it, frames drop and the stream stutters. Twitch’s own guide says a stable stream beats higher quality.
    What bitrate does Twitch recommend?
In Twitch’s own table: 6,000 kbps for 1080p 60 fps, 4,500 kbps for 1080p 30 fps and 720p 60 fps, and 3,000 kbps for 720p 30 fps. All of them use CBR rate control and a 2 second keyframe interval. Twitch publishes nothing below 720p in that table.
What is the maximum bitrate on Kick?
Kick’s own streaming article gives a range of 1,000 to 8,000 kbps, a maximum of 1920×1080 and 60 fps, and says rate control must be CBR — variable bitrate is not supported. It publishes no separate bitrate per resolution.
Can I use all of my upload speed?
Better not to. Voice, chat, the game and updates share the same line, and the speed is not constant. This page uses 75% of your upload speed — that is our own rule of thumb, not a platform rule.
    Should I pick 1080p or 720p?
For fast games 720p at 60 fps looks cleaner; for calm scenes 1080p at 30 fps. If the bitrate is not enough, drop the frame rate first and the resolution after.
